Actually, ancient religions worshiped female side of nature in preference to masculine character. As proof, here in India (south, I don't know about north) every small village has a female deity of its own. They simply call it 'mother'. But as with everything else here, its only a relic of some ancient wisdom because this goddess worshiping is marred by animal sacrifices and superstitions associated with (female) hysteria.

You know, a wonderful book written in our language("Silent grandma's dreams") lambastes conventional religions (even our holybook, Gita) while praising 'mother'. I wonder if such a book will be tolerated elsewhere (here, the author won the national literary award!! ). But the world has no time for all this :(
